登山你我他
Notes of Mountain Climbing
▲登山活動已成為普遍的休閒活動
Surrounded by seas, Taiwan, with many high mountains, is an island with special environment
and biodiversity. Taiwan is 36,000 square kilometer in area, and about two thirds of that is covered
in mountains. Taiwan has more than 200 summits higher than 3000 meters. The stunning landscapes
dominated by precipitous slopes and towering mountains are rarely seen in any other country on
the planet. Such a unique condition, combined with Taiwan’s being at low-latitude tropics or sub-
tropics, makes it possible for people to go mountain-climbing all the year round. Many mountain-
climbing and hiking events are organized. With two days off per week and the government’s as
well as private organizations’ promotion, mountain-climbing becomes more and more popular.
More and more people with different genders, ages, education degrees and walks of life take part in
different kinds of mountain-climbing events. Combined with convenient transportation and adequate
information, mountain-climbing has become a popular leisure activity. However, the mountain-
climbing accidents are on the rise as well.
