The sun is rising with the birds singing around, and the day begins with warm sunshine. Did
you sleep tight? Are you ready for today’s mission?
When people leave for work in the morning, the firefighters have just had the handover done
before dragging their exhausted bodies to go home. The hard work of the whole day yesterday
erodes their minds and bodies. In addition to the long working hours, firefighting personnel handle
various emergencies, and the psychosocial stress they have to cope with is much more than
workers in many other job sectors.
The duty officers of the Rescue Command Center (hereinafter referred to as the Command
Center) are responsible for accepting the cases reported by people and help them to deal with
various accidents over the phone. However, the job is not as easy as it sounds. In addition to
relevant professional knowledge, the job requires that the duty officers should be patient when
communicating with people and guiding them to provide necessary information, so that the disaster
rescuers could rush to the accident scene as soon as possible. Long working hours and high
pressure has a certain impact on the health, and it is not uncommon that the duty officers suffer
from sleep deprivation and irregular work schedules. The following is a brief introduction to sleep
deprivation and the on/off duty time of the duty officers.
