National Fire Agency training centers were set up in compliance with Article 16 of the Disaster
Prevention and Protection Act, which states that "Special search and rescue teams and the training
centers of National Fire Agency, Ministry of the Interior; and search and rescue teams and training
centers of municipal or county (city) government shall handle major disaster rescue, response and
other related training affairs", as part of NFA's mid-term plan to improve the agency's disaster
response capabilities during emergencies. The centers were opened officially on January 19,
2010, having obtained prior approval from the Executive Yuan, to offer training programs such as
frontline emergency response workshops, educational courses for disaster response personnel, and
other training opportunities.
