Robotic Lifeguard Helps Water Rescues
Tainan is a city with plenty of water bodies. In recent years, more and
more visitors have come to Tainan, especially to Yuguang Island and
Sunset Platform in Anping District, as tourism develops. Anping Canal
and Yanshui River are also bodies of water here. Water bodies are teeming
with people who want to play in the water and go sightseeing on holidays
and weekends. While enjoying leisure activities, water safety is also
critically essential. According to the water rescue data of the fire agencies
under the Ministry of the Interior (MOI), the total drowning cases in
Taiwan in 2020 is 882, including 572 dead, 291 saved, and 19 missing.
In the past three years, drowning cases occurred quite often in Anping
District in Tainan. Other than water safety promotion, rescue method
enhancement is also worth discussing.
The Sixth Rescue Squad in the Anping Branch of the Tainan City Fire
Department has deployed water rescue robots which have gradually been
widely used domestically and internationally in recent years. Tech-aided
rescue approaches improve the time-effectiveness and rescue capabilities.
It can maintain the stability of rescuers and reduce the loss of human
power. The length of time contacting people who are drowning is also
圖 effectively shortened. The method is one of the planning and promotion
ambitions of disaster relief.
