Most people in Taiwan live in in urban areas, especially the North. To expand their living space, some
people will build balcony extensions and install windows. By doing so, they can claim more space to
keep odds and ends or hang clothes. However, turning the well-ventilated balcony into a confined space
can lead to incomplete combustion of the water heater, as there is insufficient supply of air. Meanwhile,
the exhaust gas is unable to emit out of the building, which can result in CO poisoning to humans. Work Discussion

In addition, the bad weather in Taiwan—freezing, humid in winter and typhoon-prone in summer—
often forces people to close their doors and windows tightly. Yet this will increase the possibility of CO

every local fire department has prepared related reports and charts when such accidents occurred.
Through data collection, we can analyze the accidents in terms of their causes, time, distribution and

for CO poisoning prevention and related policy revision.
