Over the years, there have been some cases of casualties resulting from the discharge of firefighter
duties such as rescue operations, or in the course of their training. Some notable ones include six
deaths in the 2018 fire incident at the Chin Poon PCB plant in Taoyuan City, two deaths in the 2019
fire incident at a factory in Taichung's Daya District, one death in the 2020 traffic accident involving a
fire truck from the Fengxiang Branch of the Kaohsiung City Fire Department dispatched to the scene
of a fire, one death in the 2021 fire incident at the old Chiaoyou Building in Changhua City, and one
death by drowning in a 2021 training accident. These incidents have increased the public's awareness
of the matter of firefighter safety. Hence, NFA faces a pressing imperative to adopt an all-rounded
approach to elevate safety protocols during disaster response and training programs.
