On the eve of the 2022 Fire Prevention Festival, President Tsai Ing-Wen met the 72 winners of the
Phoenix Award to thank them for their hard work in firefighting, volunteer work, fire prevention
public education, as well as rescue and disaster prevention. The President has also pledged to
provide NT$1.224 billion in funds to bolster the disaster prevention and response efforts of
the nation. The government will fully cover the cost of replacing old fire trucks that have been
in use for over 20 years. A total of 97 fire trucks are expected to be replaced. In addition, she
also responded to the issue of manpower shortage in fire departments by announcing a goal of
increasing the number of firefighters by 3,000 members within five years. The goal is expected to
be achieved in 2023.
