Recent news reports that no swimming on the Shalun Beach has influenced
locals§ livelihood and recreational activities has made quiet Shalun Beach again
attract everyone§s attention. If we study the history of Shalun Beach, where we

would find exactly French army landed to invade Taiwan in 1884. Because the land
is flat, Shalun Beach is of much military importance. However, with the time passing,
in the 60s to 70s, when Taiwan was ruled under the Martial Law, Tamshui Township

Hall introduced ¨public productive enterprise© policy to open it as a recreational
place for the public. However, since 1999, with different reasons, it has been closed
twice. Eight junior high students were drowned in Shalun Beach after it was closed.
What shocked and saddened everyone was five junior high students got drowned
last Jul, making safeguarding Shalun Beach a most important issue in the time

being.
